Asparagus

Chicken Salad with Baby Zucchini and Lemon

This was my first food shoot. The assignment called for one shot of an “Asparagus” dish. However, the chef kept on bringing out one dish after after another, so I kept on shooting no questions asked. I can't believe how easy it is to shoot food! This was a pleasant change from me shooting sports or news.

Track and Field Championships

The following ten photos are from my magical night covering the Section V 2008 Winter Boys and Girls Track and Field Championships at Rochester Institute of Technology in Henrietta, NY. I wasn't sure if I wanted to use strobes for this event or just the ambient light, but half way to the field house I returned to my car to get a set of Nikon Speedlight SB-80DXs. (Not because I decided to use them at this point..... I just didn't want to walk back to the car in the cold if I did finally decide to use them.) And I'm glad I did, they made shooting this event much more fun! This assignment was shot with a Nikon D1H, 70-200mm f/2.8, a 1.7x TC, and three Pocket-Wizards, and two Nikon Speedlight SB-80DXs.

Before & After

These before and after photos are from a recent high school basketball game. I had two strobes set up on the floor behind the basketball hoop to help with the lighting. When this play happened I snapped 3-4 consecutive photos and this was the best one. However, one of the strobes didn’t go off (the back one did, but the front one didn’t) because the batteries were too low and it couldn't recycle in time for a full discharge. Once I got back to the office I had little hope that this photo could be used because it was severely underexposed. After several minutes of playing with the curves and levels in Photoshop I was able to salvage what I could and get the photo into the Sundays paper.
